A free standing central kitchen island to match existing “shaker” style kitchen. The client wanted this unit to be as narrow as possible. To have two large stainless steel sinks with the deepest possible pan drawers opposite. Also a large two section pull-out ecological waste bin, with a wine rack making interesting use of the spare corner. Two more cupboards either side of the pan drawers to balance the design, shallow open shelves behind the turned corner pillars at the other end which houses a dishwasher too! The plinth was also set back further than nornal, this required careful support below the vertical partitions etc of the carcass. Fortunately the property has two pairs of French doors allowing the unit to be made in one peice. It took eight people to lift it off the back of a Transit tipper, over the garden hedge as access from elsewhere was blocked by scaffolding. The granite was fortunately supplied in one peice too.
